Halloween / We Scare Hunger Food Drive

Dear Parents/Guardians,

With the uncertainty of Halloween in Ottawa, we wanted to let parents know we are pleased to provide some Halloween entertainment at school on Friday, October 30, 2020. We invite our students to wear optional costumes or orange and black clothing that day. Costumes should be as simple as possible, with nothing that will impede the safety of the children. We request that students do not wear Halloween masks or helmets, as the children will still be wearing their cloth/medical masks to comply with Covid requirements. Please do not send any ‘props’ with your child’s costume. We recognize that not all families are purchasing costumes this year, so we encourage you to create something at home from things that you already have on hand.  Alternatively, the children can simply wear orange and black to celebrate this as a spirit day. Individual classes may also be planning different activities.

As the pandemic continues, we know that there are many families who are still struggling. Our school will once again be participating in the “We Scare Hunger” food drive. The thirst to help is always in our school. We ask that students bring in canned foods or non-perishable items anytime between Tuesday, October 20th and Monday, November 2nd. We have carefully considered the potential issue of cross-contamination with the items of food being brought in and will quarantine and sanitize them once we collect them and before distributing them in order to minimize this risk.

Halloween will be different this year, just as many of the events of the past 7 months have been, but I know we will make the most of it at St. Cecilia!

Thank you in advance for your cooperation.
