Message from Father Frank

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Connecting with Jesus Right at Home

Once again, we are off-balance, not sure how to adjust and dealing with all the practical realities of life as we isolate ourselves and wait for the crisis to be over. It is not easy, and puts a strain on every one of us.

Since we cannot gather easily, it is important, especially now,  to let your children see that we can take comfort and strength in God, deliberately connecting with Jesus right at home.  The ‘home’ is the basic unit of the Church, and you are the teachers and guides. It is at home that we daily practice following Jesus in very practical ways. Part of that is including Jesus by name in our daily routine, talking about him, praying to him, asking his help and thanking him for his love. We do all this regularly (or we forget about it) and in ways that are ‘age-appropriate’, ways that fit your situation.

Praying with You and Younger Siblings

With your encouragement your children have grown in their understanding of Jesus and how to respond to his love for us. While this will continue at school, I think that the educational situation will pose serious challenges and more than school prayer will be needed. Your children need to be able to pray with you - the important people in their lives - and connect with the strength and comfort that our faith can bring to times of strangeness and difficulty. One of the effective ways to do this is let them lead younger siblings.

To help you with this, we regularly will send you by e-mail various suggestions and materials about how to do this simply; you pick the ones that work for you.

The attached is a version of the Children's Liturgy you can use at home on Sunday, especially if it is too much to expect that your children could sit through our live webcast of our 11:00am Sunday Mass. The second attachment is a page suitable for colouring.
